If you feel an intense pressure to be perfect, this evidence-based workbook offers real strategies based in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you develop a more balanced and healthy perspective.
Do you hold yourself, and perhaps others, to extremely high standards? Do you procrastinate certain tasks because you are afraid you won’t carry them out perfectly? If you answered yes to one or both of these questions, chances are you are a perfectionist. And while there’s nothing wrong with hard work and high standards, perfectionism can also take over your life if you let it. So, how can you find balance?
With this workbook, you will identify the causes of your perfectionism and the ways it is negatively impacting your life. Rather than measuring your self-worth by productivity and accomplishments, you’ll learn to exercise self-compassion, and extend that compassion to others. You will also learn ways to prioritize the things that really matter to you, without focusing on attaining fixed goals.
Life isn’t perfect, and neither are we. If you’re ready to break free from out-of-control perfectionism and start living a richer, fuller life, this workbook will help you get started.
My only criticism is that the format for the Kindle version is not the most convenient to work on since AFAIK I cannot type into the tables or worksheets. I’ve had to screenshot the exercises and use markup or another app to be able to type/write onto the worksheets. This is more an issue with Kindle and its app though. It was only a minor inconvenience to me to figure out a workaround since I’m decently tech savvy.
Whether you are in therapy or use this on your own, this workbook can help build your skills in self-acceptance and improve your self-esteem. Sharon brings her years of experience in being a social worker, writer, and author into this workbook. She not only gives a wide array of real-life examples in each chapter; each chapter continues to build upon one another in a clear and organized way, so you can have a strong foundation of reprogramming your thoughts to loving yourself as the imperfect human each of us is.
I highly recommend this workbook if you are struggling with a loud inner critic, thinking you are not enough and think you need to be perfect to be loved.
