A simple, fail-proof road map for parents raising even the most challenging children from the founder of the life-changing Calm the Chaos methodology and the Lemon Lime Adventures blog.

Strong-willed, spirited, explosive, and highly sensitive are just a few of the most common labels for challenging kids. Whether your child has been diagnosed with a behavioral condition, labeled, or is just harder than other children you’ve met, you are in luck. Parenting expert, Dayna Abraham is here to help.

Calm the Chaos is a clearly organized, methodical approach to parenting. Dayna has created a road map to help parents find peace and meet their kids where they are at when conventional parenting tools have failed. There are five steps to calming the chaos—Getting to Safety, Restoring Trust and Energy, Finding Calm in the Moment, Getting Ahead of the Moment, and Defining Family Success. Each step employs a framework that is easy to remember, even when emotions run high: you ground yourself, you connect with your kid, you work with them to understand the catalyst and the issue at the heart, and then together you get curious about finding an empowered solution.

Backed by science and tested by hundreds of thousands of families, Calm the Chaos is a revolutionary road map complete with in-the-trenches stories, scripts, prompts, and worksheets that make it simple for parents to build a safe home and support healthy kids.

Other books and advice have failed me but this was exactly what I was looking for. A plan to follow when you’re in the middle of a raging “storm”. When you have a child with symptoms of ADD, OCD, and ODD you need different strategies and this was it. Thank you from the bottom of my breaking heart.

If you're considering this book, just buy it. It is by far the best parenting book I've ever read (and I've read a lot). Desperate to find something that finally worked, I've tried various approaches but haven't found anything this accessible. I love that Dayna meets you where you're at (in the trenches) and not in an some magical ideal parenting world.
It's super easy to read, broken down into digestible chunks and her use of pictures throughout is helpful for my brain as well. She lays it out in basics, repeats it with more detail, and then most importantly gives you small actionable changes you can make immediately to start seeing results.
I finally feel some hope after not having any for a very long time. This is truly a lifesaver for anyone parenting a struggling child.

Dayna gets it! She is able to meet the parents where they are and guide them to a compassionate and healthy interaction with even the most challenged child or situation. I have found her insights and strategies invaluable in helping me be a better parent. This is my most referenced book and one I refer to often in helping my family through a very chaotic time in my life post-cancer treatment. I have followed Dayna's framework outlined here to guide my family through that tumultuous time and to build a deep connected relationship with my children. Every individual who works with children: parent, pediatrician, or counselor would benefit from this book.

I’ve read them all. Out of desperation I read all the parenting books and none of them helped, worked, or made me feel more hopeful. In fact, I usually walked away feeling like the world’s worst parent with kids that didn’t seem to work like anyone else’s. Enter Calm The Chaos - the first parenting book that has helped, worked, and given me hope. This book has helped me to do what the cover says that it will - Calm The Chaos. It provides a doable roadmap to bring peace to your home and connect the people who live there. I am so very grateful for a handbook that finally addresses the parenting challenges I face in an effective way.

This book is such an excellent resource for parents, or for anyone who works with kids. The Calm the Chaos framework can be applied to any kid, any family, any behavioral challenge. I love how this book clearly lays out the next step to take in whatever stage you're in, from barely surviving the storms to creating a family that is thriving together. There's no shaming and no pressure to get it perfect the first time. Keep revising your plan and celebrate the small wins along the way -- pretty soon they'll add up to big changes! I'm currently reading this book as a parent, and I'm looking forward to re-reading it with my "teacher hat" on!

This book is the first book that I have read that actually gives you things to do and try right away. They actually work!! Dayna Abraham gives details and ideas to go along with the steps. I kept catching myself saying that’s me or that’s my child. I can’t thank Dayna Abraham enough for sharing and writing this book for everyone to read. I highly recommend anyone that has kids, works with kids or even knows a kid to read this book. There is something for everyone. As you are learning ways to help your child you will learn things about yourself in the process. This book has opened up my eyes so much.

You know that child the one that does not seem to listen, destroys items, does not fall into “normal” category. Dayna Abraham has come up with an approach that you can follow and everyone wins. Simple easy steps help not only you but the child you are working with. Best part this was written by a parent with a child that educators had no idea on what to do with. Instead of giving up she started researching and what she found was kids do not always know how to communicate and sometimes when they are acting out it is the only way they can let you know something is wrong. Find out what those behaviors mean.. create plans and working together and learning how to communicate. This book will change your life.

This is a book for a program that saved us. It is a path forward when there does not seem to be a path you can take. And it works for everyone. It breaks down how to help and be their kids even in the hardest times.

This is a must-read for parents with challenging kids. You can find a path that helps. And you have clear steps all along the way. You have questions to get you to the root of the problem. You have a guide that other systems lack. You have the first point to start at and you go from there. And it is not just about the kids it is also about making sure you are taking care of yourself as well.

This book is for parents, teachers, therapists, or anyone who wants to help communicate better with others. I will be sharing this book with everyone I can!
