This has a lot of information. It is a lot of information to read and isn't super "fun" during the hard times of the detox period. I recommend you read this book before you get started and decide if it is for you to even get into. The information is technical but good. There are some recipes to follow and are pretty yummy.

I feel this book is a great resource if you are going to get into the GAPS diet. Don't miss the opportunity to read it first. I did not read it first and felt a little lost on how to proceed at times. My friend did read the whole book first and she constantly had the knowledge to help her through and was able to point me in the right direction when I was stressed "in the moment."

There is a lot in this book. Not a quick read. Not a fancy cookbook. IF you are expecting a book that completely details the concepts and ideas behind the creation of the GAPS diet then this is your book.

If you are truly ill, or are caring for a child or other loved one who is struggling, you will spare no expense and no effort to find solutions: we have one life, one body, and only one experience of them. With this in mind, I encourage you to take a look at this very interesting and forward-thinking book.
The Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet was recommended to me by my Naturopathic MD, who said that I should read this book so as to fully understand the connection between the gut and the immune system.
Well, I have done so, and I have to say: this book is comprehensive, well-written, and I have decided that the dietary guidelines it presents are what I am going to be following for the next few years.
I would encourage anyone who is struggling with gut or autoimmune issues to read this book. (Of course, talk to your licensed health care provider, and see if these recommendations are right for you. Do not self-diagnose, or self-treat.)

My daughter has severe food and environmental allergies. Because of it, her skin breaks out with terrible eczema. It's been this way since she was a month old. Anti-allergy medicines didn't help and I am opposed to putting cortizone creams on her skin long term. We did this diet exclusively for 5 months and within a few weeks she was clear!!!! And, she was able to eat foods that she hadn't been able to in the past. I highly recommend the diet for healing....I often recommend it to people.

I did give it 4 stars because it is a very difficult diet to follow long term; which is what the diet requires. Like I mentioned, we did it for 5 months and had amazing results! We went off it, and for the first couple months she was clear...but now the eczema is back. We are planning on resuming the diet after the holidays. She is old enough to understand how she eats effects her skin, and she wants to go back on it. We haven't yet because (1) it is a lot of work, and (2) because well, it's a lot of work! I don't think you can get the amazing results without doing the work. If there was an easier way, we'd do it. So back on the diet we will go.
