Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride set up The Cambridge Nutrition Clinic in 1998. As a parent of a child diagnosed with learning disabilities, she is acutely aware of the difficulties facing other parents like her, and she has devoted much of her time to helping these families. She realized that nutrition played a critical role in helping children and adults to overcome their disabilities, and has pioneered the use of probiotics in this field. Her willingness to share her knowledge has resulted in her contributing to many publications, as well as presenting at numerous seminars and conferences on the subjects of learning disabilities and digestive disorders. Her book Gut and Psychology Syndrome captures her experience and knowledge, incorporating her most recent work. She believes that the link between learning disabilities, the food and drink that we take, and the condition of our digestive system is absolute, and the results of her work have supported her position on this subject. In her clinic, parents discuss all aspects of their child’s condition, confident in the knowledge that they are not only talking to a professional but to a parent who has lived their experience. Her deep understanding of the challenges they face puts her advice in a class of its own.

I feel this book is a great resource if you are going to get into the GAPS diet. Don't miss the opportunity to read it first. I did not read it first and felt a little lost on how to proceed at times. My friend did read the whole book first and she constantly had the knowledge to help her through and was able to point me in the right direction when I was stressed "in the moment."
There is a lot in this book. Not a quick read. Not a fancy cookbook. IF you are expecting a book that completely details the concepts and ideas behind the creation of the GAPS diet then this is your book.
The Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet was recommended to me by my Naturopathic MD, who said that I should read this book so as to fully understand the connection between the gut and the immune system.
Well, I have done so, and I have to say: this book is comprehensive, well-written, and I have decided that the dietary guidelines it presents are what I am going to be following for the next few years.
I would encourage anyone who is struggling with gut or autoimmune issues to read this book. (Of course, talk to your licensed health care provider, and see if these recommendations are right for you. Do not self-diagnose, or self-treat.)
I did give it 4 stars because it is a very difficult diet to follow long term; which is what the diet requires. Like I mentioned, we did it for 5 months and had amazing results! We went off it, and for the first couple months she was clear...but now the eczema is back. We are planning on resuming the diet after the holidays. She is old enough to understand how she eats effects her skin, and she wants to go back on it. We haven't yet because (1) it is a lot of work, and (2) because well, it's a lot of work! I don't think you can get the amazing results without doing the work. If there was an easier way, we'd do it. So back on the diet we will go.
