The Happiness Workbook is a cognitive behavioral therapist approach to shifting to a positive outlook mindset. This book would be good for people who are trying to move away from depression. People who naturally have a negative attitude can use this self-helo book to reprogram what they to think In a different manner that is more oriented toward a hopeful and optimistic attitude. For example, you can record your thoughts and realize if you were being critical of yourself or if you are using negative self talk and then try and teach yourself how to rephrase and change the attitude towards the positive. This is written by a psychologist and I trust the CBT process. This is a good self-help book to use at home especially if you are not going through CBT one on one with a psychologist.

To be honest, I picked up this book for some ideas on free writes and other discussions I might have with my students. As a high school, language arts teacher, we often look at character development in the novels and stories we read. To get them warmed up, I sometimes like to have them consider things they would tell the character. I did get a few prompts and ideas from this that I could incorporate.

I do think this would help me though as well, especially as that's how this was written. You can use this to really practice being more positive and developing greater gratitude. Honestly, we can all use that help!

Aaron Beck is credited with inventing Cognitive Behavior Therapy, but I’m inclined to believe it was Shakespeare first said, “Nothing is good or evil; thinking makes it so”. CBT relies on our understanding of how we see things which shapes our perceptions of events. There is truth in that modality, but it isn’t deep and it doesn’t make sense in extreme situations. Mass shootings are bad no matter how you frame them.
That said, it’s the daily actions that make up most of our lives and that affect us in profound ways. If you’re like me, and you’re driving on a street with one lane in each direction, and you can’t pass the car in front of you, who is driving 35mph in a 55 mph area, you’re going to get very agitated. You might curse, honk your horn, flash your brights, but deep breathing, listening to music, talking to a friend, enjoying the scenery won’t cut it. And I’ve yet to find a way of not being frustrated.
I have used some techniques that have enriched my life. For example, I realize that most of the time I get upset about something, it’s because I had expectations that weren’t met over which I have no control. I made a decision to let go of having expectations (other than when I’m in my car), about a month ago, and have been much happier because of that.
Read this book and discover what you can do to make your life more rewarding.

I bought one for myself and my best friend so we could do them together. The questions inside help you get things out that might be bothering you and they are always fun to share responses to the questions with each other. We have had tons of laughs. Thanks for a fun workbook.

Life is busy, so this workbook that walks you step by step in making changes to your life (and gives you room to reflect/rate and keep track) is double helpful. It's hard with so much going on to remember something where you are at in a book or how well you've done. I like that it gives you things to do and try instead of just talking about changes. I'm using it for personal improvement, as well as in my homeschool to give my kids better coping tools. It's a good book to have!

Along with a daily 10 minute practice of mindfulness I’ve taken up recently I’ve added the practices in the book to my daily routine (and included my youngest adult daughter to practice it with me).

The craziness of the past 18+ months has weighed heavily on so many people in so many different ways. In my own immediate family I’ve got daughters who have “weathered” the pandemic with minimal changes to her daily life, another daughter who works in the hospitality industry and has had to deal face to face with both kind and ignorant people, and another daughter who has lost so very much. All while my husband and I have been blessed to have weathered it well and been able to help our daughters to meet their daily needs.
Which brings a crazy amount of “guilt” for surviving while so many people have been destroyed.

This book has helped bring a modicum of hope and positivity in dealing with daily life as well as optimism for the future. Nothing is 100% effective or cures all but taking daily steps/practices to improve your outlook and make positive changes sure does help.

I would strongly recommend this book!

I am working through this long-distance with a dear friend. Both of us have lived challenges in our family life that made being happy nearly impossible. We like the clear approach and advice offered here. The language is for laypersons, and the goals are achievable. I recommend this to anyone wanting to take steps to improve their quality of life.

I've been doing CBT for a while and on of the things it helps you realize is that happiness is a choice.

We have so many negative thoughts and harmful habits that we don't even think about or realize how they are affecting our overall mood.

This book however definitely helps you be aware of some of them though and helps you with exercises to work through negativity.

Like anything happiness takes work but fortunately this book helps makes that work easier.

This thought provoking book walks you step-by-step from understanding what happiness is and isn’t, through taking a series of self assessments and explaining CBT techniques and usefulness, slowly developing both your understanding and practical skills. It has compassion and understanding built in, even referencing the possibility that you may have put the book down and come back to it quite a bit later, which is definitely something I do with these types of books, whether because I am processing the information, or because I feel stuck and don’t want to look at it. Offering a variety of ideas and simple practices, many of which require short time commitments or just a moment of mindfulness, this book has enough flexibility to prevent you from giving up because the tasks feel monumental. Clear and concise writing, good ideas, and a nice visual flow make this book doable.

This book is awesome! I work in healthcare, which is stressful most of the time. I also have kids that can drive me nuts. I am grateful for my kids and job, but sometimes it can be hard to be positive and see the bright side. This book is CBT based, so it actually is based on methodology. I love that it has pages you can fill out. It makes you actually think and realize why you should stop to be thankful and happy. I enjoy readying this book, I will most likely pass this book on.

I have been studying psychology my whole life. We can all agree "thoughts are things" -many times bad things - and that is the basic premise for CBT. The way we think about things can lift us up or keep us down. Change your thoughts and change your life. This book and CBT therapy is by no means a quick-fix. As anything else in life, mastering stubborn, and sometimes self-sabotaging beliefs can be a long road and an ongoing work in progress. Happiness will have a lot of detours, set-backs and trap doors along the way.

The Happiness Workbook is the kind of book to give to someone that needs help and hope. Author Anna Napawan, PHD, simplifies the subject matter making it accessible to everyone and anyone at all levels of their personal growth. Great book to gift to someone you care about or love.

For me personally, CBT is like TNT and can help blow the doors off those negative and hindering thought processes that house those self-limiting beliefs.

    Enjoy!

Truthfully, only you can decide to be happy. This workbook is a great way to start on your way to being happy. If you go through the steps, you should be able to find happiness inside yourself. Does this mean you will be happy everyday? No. There will always be sad things that happen. But knowing how to change your mind to a more positive state when things get you down is a very useful tool in having an overall happy life.

The problem that most people have is that they were told certain "facts" as children, "facts" that they never questioned, "facts" that serve as a basis for many, if not most or even all their current ideas and behaviors. "Facts" that influence their thinking about life, even religion. "Facts" that are childish and wrong, that stifle their lives and destroy their happiness.
"Happiness Workbook: A CBT-Based Guide to Fostering Positivity and Embracing Joy" can help people unlearn these untruths, break habits and behaviors that are unconsciously driven by the untruths, and give people a chance to grow and have happiness. CBT is a system in which people are taught to examine their thinking and behaviors associated and driven by bad thoughts and overcome stifling thinking, depression, anxiety, and sadness. The book is easy to read and its ideas easy to follow.

Using color-coded chapters for organization and pretty pages, the Happiness Workbook is designed to be more positive in your personal life, be aware of impediments to productive thoughts and actions, and use cognitive behavior and reinforcement to instill self-care and positive thoughts. My wife gives this book five stars for parents, teachers, or anyone who needs to consistently be positive, not just for themselves, but for others. Rather than navel-gaze with a deep dive into the past, the Happiness Workbook helps people engage in the present with practical tools for positivity. Recommended.

First of all, this book is so beautiful and it makes me happy when I read it. It is not like any other self-help books that are plain and too instructional. This is a really good book to get to know more about yourself (what makes you happy, stress triggers, coping mechanisms, etc). Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in exploring and reminding themselves about having a positive outlook and being happy!

This workbook begins with information to help you to truly understand happiness, which then serves as a foundation for the exercises that push you to look inward and dig into building those positive emotions. This is a feel good book that I carried many of the practices into my life, and I don’t think there many workbooks out there that are practical, approachable, and relatable! Also, the techniques are based in science. For instance, I was able to find new ways to think about my everyday experience to appreciate them more. If you’re looking for a workbook to help you feel a little bit more positivity, or looking to cope with deeper feelings of depression, this is the book for you!
