Great book on leadership. It should be mandatory reading in all civilian and military leadership classes. Excellent mix of life lessons and sea stories to keep it light and make it thoughtful. It was great working with you in the Navy, I wish you continued success.

What I found particularly valuable about this book was the emphasis on practical strategies and actionable advice. The author skillfully breaks down complex leadership concepts into digestible insights that anyone can apply in their personal and professional lives. Whether you're a business professional, a student, or someone looking to enhance their leadership skills, this book offers valuable guidance.
The author's storytelling abilities also make the book engaging and relatable. Through personal anecdotes and examples, they paint a vivid picture of the challenges faced in leadership roles and how to overcome them. This approach makes the book not only informative but also enjoyable to read.
Moreover, the book provides a comprehensive framework for leadership development. It covers various aspects, including communication, decision-making, team building, and adaptability. The step-by-step approach allows readers to systematically build their leadership skills, ensuring a solid foundation for success.
Overall, "Learn How to Lead to Win" is a fantastic resource for anyone seeking to enhance their leadership abilities. The author's deep knowledge and real-world experiences make this book a valuable asset. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to unlock their leadership potential and make a positive impact in their professional and personal endeavors.
There are many relate-able stories throughout the book. I really loved the first flyover of the book, where the initial feeling of the book starts off fast and intense and then begins to subtly change throughout the progression of the book, much like career progression. The book was like a nice readable rallentando with the gradual chapter changes and more impactful demonstrated leadership roles as the tone crescendos into stronger, more pronounced fortissimo leadership notes while the length of the chapters shortens.
There were definitely parts that made me laugh out loud many times, but there was also a level of attention to detail and a sense to empower others through recognition of who they are and what they had done. It’s nice to see that the author cared so much about what was happening in his surrounding environment not only with regards to his own heightened level of situational awareness and authority but also that he genuinely cares for others.
Great read and future re-reads. V/R - Chris
You’d do well to learn from his experience, think about your own path, and shape your leadership lessons based on what you do every day, alone, with your team, or with your family. You’ll be better as a result. I know I am better for learning from Mike in my role as CEO with Mike as our Chairman of the Board for the National Defense University Foundation. Perhaps the most important lesson is to learn their names, to know your people, and their families. It's work I have to practice, knowing more about my team beyond work, perhaps a lesson I came to late. Mike shows why it's important. He also demonstrates how to help people become their best selves, to let them do the work they need to do for themselves no matter how much you might want to jump in - this comes alive talking about being on the bridge of a carrier. Wow.
I wish this book was mandatory reading for anyone wishing to become a leader. I have recommended it to my cadets in Navy JROTC and I know those who read it will be on a better path to becoming a successful leader by taking on board the lessons in leadership that are in the book.
Bottom line, get the book today!
