In this fun and engaging workbook, the cofounder of the Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens (MSC-T) program offers essential self-compassion and mindfulness skills to help kids build emotional strength and resilience. Kids will find simple, age-appropriate practices based in loving-kindness and gratitude to self-soothe, reduce stress, and respond to their own emotional needs. They’ll also learn to make kindness their “superpower,” quiet their inner bully, and protect and befriend themselves.

Activities in the book are designed to facilitate experiential learning, and include:

  • Mindfulness meditations
  • Reflective journaling
  • Hands-on mindful movement activities
  • Arts and crafts activities

 

Self-compassion and emotional resilience are cornerstones of mental health, and research shows that teaching these skills to children when they are young can have lasting, positive effects—well into adulthood. With this workbook as a guide, kids will learn to be a better friend to themselves and others, and thrive in a stress-filled world.

    We enjoyed the “bite-sized” nature of this book, which allowed out family to complete each activity together as a family in a fairly brief amount of time. Then, build on each activity the next evening. My 11-year-old and 7-year-old both enjoyed the activities, and found them engaging. My wife and I both participated, and also benefited/enjoyed. We liked that there was variety to the activities, which kept things interesting from night-to-night/day-to-day. Highly recommend!

    Hobbs and Ballentine have put together a book of fun, engaging activities that teach kids the basic principles of mindful self-compassion along with practices to put it to work in their lives. It's exciting to think of children being able to grow up with some freedom from the crushing weight of self-doubt and criticism. I recommend it highly.

    Absolutely love this book! The activities and skills in this book make teaching self-compassion easy and fun. There is something for every kid (and adult). I especially appreciate how the tools/activities can be done in just about any setting and with whatever amount of time available. Life is so busy but this shows that teaching self-compassion can happen anytime and anywhere

    The concrete, creative activities will inspire kids to use all their senses and develop their empathy. It's a book you can come back to many times over the years of your child's or grandchild's or child-friend's growth and keep learning from.
    Great for adults, too.

It is much needed knowledge to help our children get through the day to day challenges and pain of life. The driving message is of course compassion, which is instrumental in our survival.
